Two attorneys who played key roles in helping T-Mobile complete its $26 billion purchase of Sprint in 2020 received compensation packages from the cellular carrier in 2021 that totaled a combined $23.6 million.

The largest sum, $13.8 million, went to Mark Nelson, who came aboard as general counsel in September 2021 after advising the company for two decades as outside counsel at Cleary Gottlieb. His work helping T-Mobile overcome opposition to the Sprint deal from the Department of Justice and state attorneys general earned him "Dealmaker of the Year" recognition from The American Lawyer in 2020.

The pay for Nelson and the $9.8 million in compensation for retired general counsel David Miller, who stepped down in April after 27 years with T-Mobile, were disclosed in a proxy statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday.
