Two attorneys who played key roles in helping T-Mobile complete its $26 billion purchase of Sprint in 2020 received compensation packages from the cellular carrier in 2021 that totaled a combined $23.6 million.

The largest sum, $13.8 million, went to Mark Nelson, who came aboard as general counsel in September 2021 after advising the company for two decades as outside counsel at Cleary Gottlieb. His work helping T-Mobile overcome opposition to the Sprint deal from the Department of Justice and state attorneys general earned him “Dealmaker of the Year” recognition from The American Lawyer in 2020.
