Intel Corp. has tapped a rising star among general counsel to serve as its next legal chief.

Next month, April Miller Boise will join the Santa Clara, California-based microprocessor giant as executive vice president and chief legal officer. She's been general counsel of the Dublin-based power management company Eaton Corp. since 2020.

Miller Boise is well-known in the general counsel community for co-founding the Black General Counsel 2025 initiative in 2017. Its goal is to increase the number of Black general counsel in Fortune 1000 companies from 50 to 100. She also won the Champion of Diversity Award from The American Lawyer Industry Awards in 2021.

Miller Boise succeeds Steven Rodgers, who retired this year after more than 20 years at Intel.

"Intel has been at the forefront of innovation, technology and global business for decades, cultivating a world-class legal, trade and government affairs organization," Miller Boise said in a statement. "I am honored to have the opportunity to lead such a talented group."

Miller Boise brings more than 25 years of legal experience across global markets and several industries. Prior to joining Eaton in 2020, Boise served as senior vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary for the auto parts manufacturer Meritor.

Before going in-house, Boise spent more than a decade at Cleveland-based law firm Thompson Hine. Early in her career, she was a lawyer at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and Blackwell Sanders.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said Miller Boise is the rare combination of innovative business leader and talented attorney.

"Our ambitious goals for Intel are set against an increasingly complex legal and policy environment, and [Miller Boise's] breadth of skills and experience make her a critical addition to our leadership team as we pursue the largest transformation in the company's history," she said.

Intel is the world's largest manufacturer by revenue of semiconductor chips, a product used in most of the world's electronic devices. The company has more than 120,000 employees worldwide.

Last year, the company announced a manufacturing expansion plans that will begin with a $20 billion investment to build two factories in Arizona.
