San Francisco-based fintech EarnUp, which digitizes and simplifies the process of issuing home mortgages and making monthly payments, hired Aileen Casanave as general counsel.

Casanave will oversee and manage EarnUp's legal and regulatory compliance matters. She brings to EarnUp more than three decades of legal and business experience in technology commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, intellectual property and corporate governance.

The company said Casanave's hire is part of an expansion of its executive team aimed at accelerating its growth and creating a financial system that works for everyone.

Casanave has held senior legal positions at many Silicon Valley companies, including Jiff, TIBCO, Sun Microsystems, and Lockheed Martin. Most recently, she served as vice president of legal at San Francisco-based software company SingleStore.

EarnUp CEO Nadim Homsany said the hiring of Casanave and other new C-suite executives—Chief People Officer Michelle Scanlon, Vice President Brad Woodcox and Head of Marketing  Johnathan Flowers—bring decades of experience to the company.

"EarnUp has already helped over one hundred thousand borrowers to simplify the mortgage payment experience. With our expanded executive team, we are well positioned to grow the number of lenders and servicers on our platform to reach and serve even more people," he said.

EarnUp launched in 2015. The company says it strips costs out of the mortgage process and provides options that make payments more manageable for homebuyers, including breaking one big monthly payment into smaller payments spread across the month.
