Power management company Eaton promoted Taras Szmagala Jr. to executive vice president and chief legal officer.
Szmagala succeeds April Miller-Boise, who departed Ireland-based Eaton this month to join Santa Clara, California-based computer chip giant Intel as executive vice president and chief legal officer. She begins her new role in July.
In his new role, Szmagala will lead the company's global legal organization, including the corporate governance and compliance functions. Szmagala will report to Craig Arnold, chairman and CEO.
Since joining Eaton in 2007, Szmagala has served as chief counsel for the fluid power group, vice president and chief counsel of the industrial sector, senior vice president and deputy general counsel for Eaton, and, most recently, senior vice president of public and community affairs and corporate communications.
In a LinkedIn post, Szmagala said he has been fortunate to spend more than half of his 30-year professional career with Eaton.
"During these years, Eaton and its leaders have provided me with opportunities to grow and develop—opportunities that challenged me and pushed me out of my comfort zone," he said.
Before joining Eaton, Szmagala worked as group counsel with Avery Dennison Corp. and as an attorney with Squire Patton Boggs in its Cleveland, Washington, D.C., and Kyiv, Ukraine, offices.
Eaton also announced that it named Nancy Berardinelli-Krantz senior vice president and deputy chief legal officer. In this role, Berardinelli-Krantz will continue to lead the business legal teams for the company's electrical and industrial sectors and will work closely with Szmagala in helping lead the law department.
Most recently, Berardinelli-Krantz served as senior vice president and general counsel for the company's electrical and industrial sectors.
Founded in the United States, Eaton is headquartered in Dublin, and serves customers in more than 170 countries. The company reported revenue of $19.6 billion in 2021.
