SES AI Corp., a developer and manufacturer of lithium-metal rechargeable batteries for electric vehicles, promoted Kyle Pilkington to chief legal officer.

Pilkington, who joined the company in April as vice president of legal, replaces Joanne Ban, who is stepping down for health reasons. Ban will continue as an adviser to SES CEO Qichao Hu.

Hu said Pilkington "brings a wealth of global experience, particularly in securities law matters and the effective oversight of legal, governance and regulatory matters."

Pilkington said he was attracted to SES by the work the company is doing to bring next generation battery technology to global EV manufacturers.

"This is an incredibly exciting time for the company and the industry generally, and I am thrilled at the opportunity to work closely with the rest of SES's outstanding management team as the company continues to execute on its strategic vision," he said.

Before joining the Woburn, Massachusetts-based company, Pilkington was associate general counsel at gambling company International Game Technology.

Before that, Pilkington spent 14 years in private practice at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, Baker McKenzie and Sullivan & Cromwell, specializing in cross-border transactions, securities law and capital markets transactions.
