Scottsdale, Arizona-based Axon, which develops Tasers and other technology products for law enforcement and the military, has promoted general counsel Isaiah Fields to chief legal officer, a newly created role.

In his new role, Fields will spearhead Axon initiatives across legal operations, government affairs, risk management and compliance.

Fields joined Axon in 2011 as litigation counsel and subsequently moved up the ranks to vice president of legal and government affairs and senior vice president and general counsel. He most recently served as executive vice president and general counsel and was responsible for overseeing Axon's legal, medical and compliance departments.

In a statement, Fields said he's proud to be "helping Axon continue to build the public safety ecosystem of the future."

Prior to Axon, Fields served as an assistant attorney general at the Arizona Attorney General's Office, representing the state in complex civil litigation.

Axon said that during his tenure Fields has negotiated contracts and helped implement strategies that curtailed product litigation and protected intellectual property.

"Axon operates in an intricate legal and regulatory environment that is scaling in complexity as we expand globally. I am confident that Isaiah's leadership, devotion to his team and passion for our mission will help Axon successfully navigate this phase of rapid growth," Rick Smith, CEO of Axon said.

Axon has more than 2,100 employees and generates more than $860 million in annual revenue.
