Ivan Fong, who became medical device giant Medtronic’s general counsel Feb. 1, received compensation totaling $11.7 million in his first few months on the job, according to the company’s recently filed proxy statement.

Fong had been general counsel of St. Paul, Minnesota-based 3M for nearly a decade when he jumped to Medtronic, which is based in Dublin, Ireland, but has its U.S. headquarters in Minneapolis, just down the road from 3M.
