Erica Hovani is stepping down as assistant general counsel of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency to become general counsel of TechnoServe, a nonprofit that helps lift people around the world out of poverty by providing them with skills to earn a better living.

Hovani had been assistant general counsel of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, which links businesses to export opportunities, since 2018. In addition, she served as acting general counsel from January 2021 to this March.

Before the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, she was chief legal counsel at African Risk Capacity and legal adviser to the ARC Project for the World Food Programme.

Earlier in her career, Hovani was a litigation associate at Dechert for more than six years and a teacher with the U.S. Peace Corps.

Arlington, Virginia-based TechnoServe has more than 1,200 employees and operates in almost 30 countries. 

TechnoServe said that in 2021 it helped 407,000 people or businesses in low-income countries earn an additional $250 million in revenues and wages.
