Heads of corporate legal departments are taking a lead role in the effort to stay on top of the push for pay transparency, which got a big boost this week when California joined a growing list of states that have laws requiring employers to lift the veil on compensation data.

“We’re at the dawn of a new era in pay transparency,” said Christine Hendrickson, a former Seyfarth Shaw partner who co-chaired the firm’s pay equity group. She’s now the vice president of strategic initiatives at Seattle-based pay and equity analytics tech company Syndio.
