Financial titan USAA has promoted Jason Klein, the general counsel of its banking subsidiary and a former senior attorney at JPMorgan Chase, to serve as chief corporate governance officer.

At many companies, the general counsel of the overall business also serves as corporate secretary, overseeing governance functions. But more companies are splitting the duties, highlighting the importance of that role and the increasing demands on GCs’ time, a corporate governance expert said.
