Meta, which had grown its legal department at a torrid rate in recent years, cut it back on Wednesday, as part of 11,000 job cuts aimed at resizing the company in response to slowing growth.

A senior Meta employee last fall said the department had about 2,000 employees, declaring, “We are essentially one of the largest law firms on the planet.” That employee count was up from 850 in 2018.
