Legal departments are staying mostly intact as layoffs continue to batter the tech industry, though recruiters say in-house teams at larger companies are starting to feel the pinch.

“A lot of GCs I’ve talked to have been able to hold onto their teams,” said Lina Guo, a managing director for Major, Lindsey & Africa’s in-house counsel recruiting team in San Francisco. “The really large tech companies have been pretty indiscriminate when it comes to layoffs, and there’s a certain percentage of folks getting cut at companies that have a lot of lawyers. Small to midsize companies have maybe lost a couple. But the legal teams weren’t necessarily bloated to begin with.”
