With organizations operating in an increasingly digital environment, transformation has become more common for chief legal officers (CLOs) and their teams. In the past year, more than 43% of surveyed CLOs indicated that transformation is a top priority within their legal function, with a focus on technology (86%) and strategy (14%). In another survey, more than a third reported that they are heading up their organization’s transformation efforts beyond the legal department in areas that include enterprise-wide digital (35%), workforce (35%) and cybersecurity (37%) transformation initiatives.

Yet, it’s not unusual for legal departments to struggle with organizational change. More than half (57%) of surveyed legal professionals said that adoption and change management are key concerns related to technology transformation, alongside the inability to generate value from technology solutions (65%), hurdles in clearly and consistently proving said value from technology solutions (67%) and difficulty in demonstrating return on investment (ROI) for new technologies (63%).
