Before she stepped down on March 31, Christine Wilson was the lone Republican-appointed commissioner at the Federal Trade Commission. As such, her vote in a decision was mostly inconsequential when she stood in dissent.

But the critic of FTC Chair Lina Kahn highlighted problems in the agency, from dissatisfaction among career employees to alleging the agency exceeded its authority under Kahn's gang of what she called "neo-Brandeisians," a reference to the so-called hipster antitrust movement that's highly suspicious of centralized private power. Commission watchers say her departure hurts transparency and removes an often-divergent viewpoint needed to formulate sound policy.
