The $1.3 billion fine the European Union levied against Facebook parent Meta this week over alleged data-privacy violations is sending shock waves through the tech sector, with many other companies fearing they could land in regulators’ sights.

“Say your prayers,” Georgetown University Law Center professor Anupam Chander said when asked how he would advise tech companies. ”And hope that your systems are not scrutinized the same way Facebook has been scrutinized.”
