The Eagle, Idaho-based veterinary supply company PetIQ has put general counsel R. Michael Herrman on administrative leave after authorities charged him with attempting to strangle his wife.

According to the Ada County Prosecutor's Office, Herrman was arrested at 3:28 a.m. Sunday after an altercation with his wife at their home in Eagle, a suburb of Boise. He faces a felony charge of attempted strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of intentional destruction of a telecommunication line. Authorities say a Herrman destroyed an alarm system his wife had been using to call for help.

Herrman, 55, is executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of PetIQ, a publicly traded company with nearly $1 billion in annual sales. The company disclosed what it described as a "domestic incident" and its decision to put him on leave in a Monday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
