A proposed Federal Trade Commission rule that would slap online marketers with stiff civil penalties for posting fake reviews and endorsements is receiving support from a majority of those filing public comments so far.
The FTC rolled out its proposal in June, saying the crackdown should help level the playing field for honest companies. The regulatory push was driven in part from generative AI's potential to publish fake reviews on an industrial scale,
