Former Uber security chief Joseph Sullivan is appealing his conviction for covering up a 2016 data breach and obstructing a regulator’s investigation into Uber’s security practices.

Sullivan was sentenced in May to three years of probation following a nearly monthlong jury trial in 2022. He faced up to eight years in prison for obstructing the Federal Trade Commission’s ongoing investigation into Uber’s security practices and misprision of a felony, a rare charge that involves taking active steps to conceal a crime.
