A new Gartner report says general counsel must play a key role in setting parameters for AI use in their organizations—a key step toward harnessing the benefits of the technology while preventing what the consulting firm calls “must-avoid outcomes.”

The Stamford, Connecticut-based firm says the key decisions fall into four categories: risk tolerance; permissible-use cases; decision-making chain-of-command; and disclosures to internal and external stakeholders.
