Dollar General Corp.’s legal department rang in 2023 facing a shareholder lawsuit alleging management and directors failed to maintain a system of controls over workplace safety, having been assessed more than $15 million in Occupational Safety and Health Administration violations since 2017.

While a federal judge dismissed the case in October, the low-cost retailer is finishing the year the way it started—with shareholder litigation. A pair of suits filed last month allege its executives made misleading statements to and concealed problems from investors.
