Public company general counsel are uniquely suited to serve on boards of directors of other companies, but outdated thinking and misperceptions about what legal department leaders actually do are preventing them from receiving as many invitations as they deserve.

That was the consensus of participants in a webinar last week titled “How GCs Create Value in the Boardroom,” The event—hosted by the legal executive search firm BarkerGilmore—was guided by former Hilton Worldwide General Counsel Kristin Campbell, now a senior adviser at BarkerGilmore.
