"The wage transparency laws being enacted in more states and the increased discussion around pay equity are putting female GCs and CLOs in a better position to negotiate for equal pay," said Heather Fine, co-author of the report and a partner on Major Lindsey’s in-house recruiting team. "However, the 28% global disparity is still significant, and it remains a critical area that we need to address."

Despite some progress, pay equity continues to be a major concern in in-house legal departments, according to Major, Lindsey & Africa’s latest Global In-House Compensation Survey.
The report, which is based on responses from more than 2,100 lawyers in 46 countries, reveals that female general counsel and chief legal officers earn approximately 12% less in total compensation than their male counterparts, with women averaging $527,525 compared to $596,180 for men.
