Uber legal chief Tony West will step down temporarily to volunteer for his sister-in-law Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, the company confirmed to Law.com on Friday.

West’s unpaid leave of absence will start Aug. 17, Uber stated in a regulatory filing announcing his plans to “volunteer on a political campaign in his personal capacity.” An Uber spokesperson, in  confirming the news, referred to an internal email from West that had been shared with Bloomberg News.
