Longtime Google legal chief Kent Walker came in for a kicking this week at a hearing in federal court in Virginia that was a lead-up to a bench trial over whether the company’s ad tech business is an illegal monopoly.

According to an account from search-engine-optimization news site Secure Engine Land, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema blasted Walker over a “Communication with Care” policy memo he issued in 2008 instructing employees to switch litigation-related chats to “history off” mode.
