Norfolk Southern Corp. on Wednesday night said that its board has fired Chief Legal Officer Nabanita Nag and CEO Alan Shaw over an inappropriate consensual relationship that violated the company’s policies and its code of ethics.

The board’s ouster of Shaw, a 30-year Norfolk Southern veteran who took the helm in 2021, “comes in connection with preliminary findings from an ongoing investigation that determined Shaw violated company policies by engaging in a consensual relationship with the company’s chief legal officer. Shaw’s departure is unrelated to the company’s performance, financial reporting and results of operations,” Norfolk Southern said in a press release.
