Equilar has released a report on GC pay at the nation's 500 largest public companies.
From 2019 to 2023, median pay for female GCs rose 34.5%,—16 percentage points more than the increase for male GCs.
The gap between what GCs earn and what CEOs earn shrank, reflecting the the rising importance of the legal chief role.

Median general counsel compensation surged 27% from 2019 to 2023, and the outlook for future pay increases is bright for those with a commanding presence, a strong understanding of the business and other attributes that don't show up on a resume.
