Median general counsel compensation surged 27% from 2019 to 2023, and the outlook for future pay increases is bright for those with a commanding presence, a strong understanding of the business and other attributes that don't show up on a resume.
That's the upshot from "General Counsel Pay Trends," a newly released report from the executive intelligence firm Equilar that includes commentary from John Gilmore, co-founder and managing partner of the in-house consulting and search firm BarkerGilmore.
