Two western Indiana hospitals attempting to merge using a state legal mechanism that sidesteps federal antitrust scrutiny have shelved their plan for now after pressure from the Federal Trade Commission and state regulators.
In late-2023 Union Health filed a certificate of public advantage, or COPA, with the Indiana Health Department to acquire rival Terre Haute Regional Hospital, which is owned by Nashville, Tennessee-based HCA Healthcare.
