Louisiana State University General Counsel Winston DeCuir Jr. has submitted his resignation after five years in the role, a departure that comes as the university escalates a legal battle with a law school professor it sidelined for using classroom time to bemoan the election of President Donald Trump.

DeCuir, LSU's first Black general counsel, has not commented publicly on why he is leaving, and he didn't respond to requests for comment from Law.com. He submitted his resignation last week, days after the university sidelined tenured professor Ken Levy for the rest of the semester. The university took the action after a student in his freshman criminal justice course reported that Levy had said "F*** Trump" and "F*** Landry," a reference to Republican Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, an ardent Trump supporter.
