In a down M&A market, law firms with active clients must be feeling very, very fortunate. Such is life at Cooley Godward Kronish, longtime M&A counsel to eBay. Cooley, which represented eBay on its $2.6 billion acquisition of Skype in 2005, is advising the company on the Skype IPO planned for next year, according to sources familiar with the matter. Cooley also advised eBay in the acquisition of Gmarket, the Korean auction site that was a rival to eBay’s South Korean unit, Internet Auction Co.
