But late last week, Medtronic agreed to settlement terms with W.L Gore & Associates Inc. The looming trial in San Francisco was derailed and Elacqua and his team of Dechert patent litigators were given a much-needed respite.

“Back-to-back trials are a challenge — it’s something that occasionally does happen and you have to dig down for all the extra energy you can muster,” Elacqua said Monday after Judge Jeffrey White agreed to vacate the Aug. 31 trial date. “There is always relief on the team to not have to start up again — but then again, this is what we do for a living.”
