Joseph LaSala, Jr., was just a Regular viewer of the Discovery Channel; he couldn’t get enough of its macho shows. While he’s still hooked on the filthy occupational antics of Dirty Jobs and the trial-and-error suspense of MythBusters , for the past two years he’s also been the senior EVP, GC, and secretary of Discovery Communications, Inc., a nonfiction media company that owns more than 100 networks worldwide.

LaSala has had a varied and interesting legal career, but law wasn’t a profession he’d planned on. That changed when he attended Catholic University in Washington, D.C., serving as an intern on Capitol Hill while earning his undergraduate degree. Following law school, LaSala went on to general counsel posts at Novell, Inc., Union Pacific Corporation, and Cambridge Technology Partners, Inc.
