Cupertino, California–based Apple Inc. has a new general counsel, with D. Bruce Sewell now heading the tech giant’s legal department. Sewell had been general counsel at Intel Corporation prior to his resignation. Daniel Cooperman, who had been Apple’s general counsel for the past two years, retired at the end of September. Like Cooperman, Sewell will report to CEO Steve Jobs. “We expect this to be a seamless transition,” Jobs said in a press release.

Sewell will have his hands full. The company is currently under scrutiny for its public disclosures of Jobs’s ailing health. The Securities and Exchange Commission has reportedly opened an informal investigation into the adequacy of Apple’s disclosures.
