United Technologies isn’t exactly a household name, but it produces products and services that people use every day. The company owns Otis Elevator Company, the number one elevator manufacturer; Pratt & Whitney, a commercial and military aircraft maker; Carrier Corporation, the world’s largest manufacturer of heating and air conditioning units; Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, a helicopter manufacturer; and Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation, maker of aircraft engine controls and flight systems.

All the business units face their share of legal issues. The company is dealing with governmental investigations by the United States, Korea, and the European Union, as well as an array of litigation in state and federal courts.
