Maybe it was being so close to the Gulf of Mexico. But even when Sylvia Kerrigan was a law student at the University of Texas, she wanted to practice maritime law. And for years, she worked at a Texas law firm handling cases for companies that drilled for oil in the Gulf of Mexico and shipped it out.
Now Kerrigan has been named general counsel of Marathon Oil Corporation, a Houston-based company that generated more than $72 billion in revenues in 2008. She replaces William Schwind, Jr., who retired November 1.
