American International Group may be denying reports that its general counsel Anastasia Kelly and four other executives threatened to quit over government-imposed pay caps. But Kenneth Feinberg, the U.S. government’s compensation czar, appears to have backed down nevertheless.

Bloomberg reported Tuesday that Feinberg will exempt some executives at the bailed-out insurer from a $500,000 salary cap, according to people familiar with the matter.
