A landmark settlement between the world’s largest makers of computer chips was too critical to hand over to outside counsel. Instead, in-house lawyers for both Intel Corporation and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., took the lead in crafting the agreement that resolved years of legal fighting between the Silicon Valley rivals.

“They were tough negotiations, unquestionably,” says AMD general counsel Harry Wolin. “Each side had difficult issues. That being said, I was always pleased with the behavior of everyone. Lawyers for both sides were very professional and accomplished the goal.”
