Mike Ross, the former general coun sel of Atmel Corp., wants to blow up the company’s stock option backdating settlement. Ross claims that a conflict involving Atmel’s outside law firm “taints” the $9.65 million settlement that is now headed for final approval in San Jose federal district court.

It’s the latest development in the fight between Atmel and Ross, who was GC at the San Jose–based semiconductor company from 1989 to 2006. He was fired that year in a travel funds dispute, and later blamed for some of the company’s backdating troubles. Last fall he filed a defamation suit against Atmel, claiming that it made him a scapegoat for its option problems ["It Wasn't All My Fault," October 2009].
