SAN FRANCISCO — Six months ago, face time with Hsueh-Lung “Brian” Lee would have required a trip to the minimum security prison camp in Lompoc, where an inmate’s diet includes plenty of starch, television and orders barked from the loud speaker.

Now, a meeting would be scheduled by his executive assistant: Lee is a senior vice president at Taiwan-based Chunghwa Picture Tubes with more responsibility than he had before entering prison, his lawyer, Ray Hartwell III of Hunton & Williams, confirmed.
