Thanks to a pro bono project at McDonald’s Corporation, female immigrants who have been the victim of domestic violence are getting a chance at a new life. McDonald’s attorneys are helping the women apply for a special visa that will allow them to stay in the United States in return for cooperating with their abusers’ prosecution. The lawyers have already worked on applications for several women in the Chicago area, and this spring got ready to take on more clients.

“Last year many of our people had a positive experience with the program,” says Sandra Wall, managing counsel in the franchise practice group at Oak Brook, Illinois–based McDonald’s. Wall, who organized the department’s involvement in the project, adds, “This year it just sold itself.”
