Jon Dudas, former director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, is leaving Foley & Lardner to serve as president of a nonprofit founded by the inventor of the Segway PT.

Dudas, who led the PTO from 2004 to 2009, will head FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an organization that seeks to increase young people’s interest and participation in science and technology.
