Aggreko plc has made it into the big leagues of the London Stock Market, thanks in part to a winning shot at the World Cup in South Africa. The U.K. energy company provided support services for the global soccer tournament under a $43 million joint venture contract. The deal helped propel Aggreko to the top of the “gainers board” on the Financial Times Stock Exchange 100.

Glasgow-based Aggreko entered the FTSE 100 for the first time late last year. It was a welcome development for Peter Kennerley, who became the company’s director of legal affairs in 2008. Kennerley had previously been at Edinburgh-based brewer Scottish & Newcastle plc, which was also a FTSE 100 company until it was acquired by Heineken N.V. and Carlsberg A/S.
