Like many print publications, the Financial Times is working hard to adjust to the new world of social media. The newspaper’s parent company, Financial Times Group Ltd., is healthy enough, with over $1 billion in annual revenues, but its other statistics reveal that the venerable publication is living in the same brave new world we all are. The Financial Times’ s global circulation is an enviable 421,000, but that pales compared with the more than 2.5 million readers of FT.com .

Tim Bratton, the general counsel of the London-based global business newspaper, is moving with the times , too. Sharing ideas is important to Bratton: “How do you know if what you’re doing is right or wrong without comparing it with what your peers are doing?” he asks. But exchanging information is not always straightforward for in-house lawyers. “In a law firm you can walk down the corridor and ask a colleague for advice; but in-house, where you’re generally working in a much smaller team, that’s not always possible,” adds Bratton.
