As a legal newspaper, we want to be able to report on the news and trends affecting every aspect of the legal community, including in-house counsel. Over the years, it’s been tough to get to know general counsel and the issues they face as easily as, say, the managing partners of law firms or trial lawyers. Most are naturally publicity shy, don’t venture often into a courtroom, and because they are not the heads of their organizations the way that managing partners are, normally aren’t at liberty to talk about the issues they’re dealing with.
In the past, we’ve found supplements like “Lawyers on the Fast Track,” for instance, have been a great vehicle to getting to know segments of the legal community we don’t interact with every day. Over time that supplement and awards program has led us to develop relationships with younger attorneys in the community and has really helped to make us aware of a myriad of issues facing younger lawyers.
