How much would you pay for lunch with a general counsel? Well, some Minnesota law firms paid several thousand dollars apiece at a silent auction benefiting the Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid fundraiser last week.

Up for sale were cozy lunches for four, each with one of five high-powered, Twin Cities GCs. According to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, Foley & Mansfield won an afternoon meal with GC James Chosy of U.S. Bancorp; Dorsey & Whitney with Cameron Findlay of Medtronic Inc.; Faegre Baker Daniels picked up two meals, with Rick Palmore of General Mills Inc. and Marianne Short of UnitedHealth Group Incorporated; and Zelle Hofmann Voelbel & Mason with Laura Witte of Cargill Incorporated.

The entire fundraising event brought in $350,000 to support Legal Aid services for some 10,000 low-income clients per year. The five GCs earned $18,000 of that at auction, but the sponsor wouldn’t say which GC earned the most, or least.

The best part is yet to come—the GCs will pay for lunch.
