Follow your bliss. That’s what a friend of mine always told her kids. Maybe she didn’t follow hers—she toiled long years as a public school teacher in a rough part of town. Perhaps that wasn’t her first career choice. But her advice holds an intrinsic truth: When people have some passion about a task, they do it better.
By now you’re wondering what bliss has to do with the magazine you’re holding. This month’s bliss-seeker is executive editor David Hechler, who reported and wrote the cover article, “LPO: Ready for Takeoff?”. Actually, he did more than that—he came up with the idea for the story (and a survey), persisted in forcing me to pay attention, and corraled our research team to conduct the survey that supplied the data for the resulting article.
