Tesla Motors Inc. in-house counsel James Chen spent Monday in Columbus with lobbyists, trying to convince Ohio lawmakers to kill a resolution that seeks to bar his company from selling its all-electric cars directly to consumers.

Chen, Tesla’s vice president of regulatory affairs and associate general counsel, told the Columbus Dispatch that if the bill passes, “This, for all intents and purposes, shuts down our operations.” He had parked a Tesla Model S P85 in the State House garage for lawmakers to try out.
