As part of Major League Baseball’s management structure overhaul, commissioner Bud Selig promoted general counsel for labor and senior vice president Dan Halem to executive VP of labor relations Thursday.

Once a Proskauer attorney representing heavy hitters like the MLB, NHL, NFL and NBA, Cornell-grad Halem went in-house for MLB in 2007. Since then he’s helped the league rein in teams’ wild spending with collective bargaining agreements like stricter debt rules, the competitive balance tax and new arbitration rules.
