Cybersecurity has had a big couple of weeks in the news. Target Corporation recently confirmed that it suffered a major malware attack that likely violated consumer data privacy, and probably shook consumer confidence as well. A timely survey report titled “Best Practices in E-Mail, Web and Social Media Security” provides a picture of where organizations believe their cybersecurity risk exists, including vulnerability to malware. It also explains how, in both senses of the word, they are trying not to become hackers’ next “target.”

The report, from technology and web research company Osterman Research Inc. and sponsored by Trustwave Holdings Inc., a company that helps businesses manage cybersecurity threats and protect data, used survey responses from nearly 160 security-focused decision makers and influencers working in a wide range of industries across the U.S. The majority of respondents worked at organizations with 1,000 employees or more.
