One of the most time-honored journalism practices is the “beat.” Reporters develop expertise and sources in one area, and while most reporters have wide-ranging interests and can write on just about anything, they’ll go back repeatedly to their primary beat. Inevitably this means they accumulate a consistent body of work on their subject of expertise.
And so it is with the author of our cover feature this month, Sue Reisinger. A veteran reporter (and editor in past jobs), Reisinger has developed an enviable track record in dissecting nonprosecution and deferred prosecution agreements. She can build a narrative from these memos of corporate misdeeds and promises to do better.
