So you’re ready to start your own business, but what should you call it? According to attorney Jenny Tsay in a post on FindLaw’s Free Enterprise blog, not only is naming your business “one of the most important steps,” but it can also lead to legal troubles.

She says common problems are choosing a name that’s already taken or not registering the name with the state when required. “Even using a name that pokes fun at a recognized brand—like the ‘Dumb Starbucks Coffee’ store in Los Angeles—can potentially lead to lengthy litigation,” Tsay says.
